    Abstract
Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine whether 3-dimensional (3D) Computed Tomography (CT) imaging with volume rendering can accurately evaluate distal biceps ruptures, their location, retraction and scarring of surrounding tissue which allows surgeons to pre-operatively plan the approach required for repair. Methods: Three-dimensional CT imaging was used to evaluate six cases. The location of biceps was distal tendon in all cases. Accuracy of image diagnosis was confirmed during surgery in operated cases. Results: Three dimensional CT could identify all distal biceps rupture. In all cases with rupture, the location of distal and proximal stump and scarring of surrounding tissue could be identified with almost 100% accuracy. There were no surprises during surgery in terms of location of the ruptured ends and scarring around them etc and a well pre planned operation resulted in favourable outcome. Conclusion: This study revealed usefulness of 3D CT imaging in defining distal biceps tendon rupture. This method increased the accuracy and ease of diagnosis and is useful in surgical planning, particularly for ruptures in the window between acute and chronic.
